Trade Wars
Flurry of trades these few days.
1stly, Owen goes to Newcastle after a "benchful" experience at Real. Going to Real, in the 1st place is a bad choice. They already had a star-studded lineup dat puts a meteor shower to shame. Y be a 4th/5th choice striker at some famous Spanish club when u can get a good EPL team where they're willing to build the team ard u. Only good return from going to Real is increasing ur value. Anyway finally Owen's back in EPL, I can see more of him oso.
Then came the news in NBA. Van Exel goes to SA Spurs. Jus a few min ago, another news. Finley chooses Spurs over Heat/Phoenix. SA Spurs will be REALLY strong next season. They have Manu/Bowen/Barry/Horry + Van Exel/Finley at 3pt, Duncan/Parker/Manu/Finley/Oberto in the paint, Manu/Parker/Van Exel/Finley on breaks, Duncan/Mohammed/Manu/Horry/Oberto on the boards. Brown and Robinson r on the FA list. Most probably Spurs will retain them if price is still affordable.
I think all Spurs need now is a strong, experienced and tested deliverable centre/forward. Relying on Duncan alone is risky. But still, the current lineup is able to drop jaws. Van Exel is a better backup for Parker than Udrih. Finley can cover Bowen/Manu or have a Manu/Parker/Finley 3 tips attack! Greg Popovich. U're the man!
Spurs Spurs Spurs~~~

Recaps
Its September. The whole monthly cycle renews itself. Running reports, fixing some bugs here n there in my "little excel program".
Its getting boring.
It HAS BEEN boring.
I've a temptation to get transferred to Caltex House since its like, I can meet up with frens working nearby. More food to eat, more interaction, MORE STRESS. But the "old villagers" need me here. They'll perform a tribal sacrifice if i go. Sacrificial? Me.
Quite a lot happened since I last blogged, but I haven really got the time or inspiration to sit down n let my fingers reduce the life span of the keyboard. Even now, its been half an hr since i pressed the Create A New Post button. Brain not really functioning well with all the late night Maplestorying.
Just last mth, the newspapers were flooded with bombing, now its flooded with floods/hurricanes/typhoons aka natural disasters. News of massive human wipeouts doesnt seem to end. (and Aceh is still recovering from the deadly tsunami)
This Katrina thing, had devastated some oil rigs, caused oil plants to stop production while the workers take cover. Which leads to.. shortage of oil globally, in turn, rising petrol prices. Its at a freaking S$1.99 per litre for Premium petrol, after a 9 cents increase and 3 cents decrease to make the figure nicer. There're enuff 1.99 shops all over Singapore, we dun need 1.99 petrol to make us greed from the "its less than 2 bucks" perception. Next thing to rise will be our public transport prices. Once increased, it jus climb the endlessly to the peak with no way downhill. Its practically forcing ppl to walk to work or might as well sleep in office.
We shldnt be blaming the petrol companies for jumping at the opportunity to raise prices. As an insider, I can tell u, they are rising petrol prices EVERYWHERE. Global standardisation. Basic Economics. The govt shld be the one stepping in to help the poor cab drivers trying to make ends meet and who earns lesser and lesser with the rise of fuel expenses or the common drivers who had to downgrade to stuffy hawker centres jus to pay the fuel to get them to work. Midnight surcharge jus starts earlier and earlier and get hit by ERPs virtually EVERYWHERE.
For those driving big huge heavy petrol consumption SUVs, u have urself to blame. Y drive an SUV to hog road space when there's only 4 ppl in ur family. A 1.6ltr Toyota Corolla is sufficient for ur family and goes ez on ur pockets. Dun complain abt the petrol companies. U shld kick ur nicely polishly SUVs for literally delivering money to the petrol companies' accounts.
Places like Indonesia, Malaysia and Australia, ONE protest or riot is all that they need to control the price level. (Subsidies, price ceilings etc.) In Sg, protest or riot will give u free lodging and food in jail. Social stability, yes we've achieved, but ur citizens jus looks like weaklings. Unable to stand up for themselves. Democracy? Freedom of Speech? How abt a seat in the court's dock? So wat can we do?? We suffer in silence.
Seriously i hope there's an election for my district. I'll GLADLY vote for the opposition. + I wan the holiday. Walkovers r jus too boring.
I jus read tis: Forbes predicts oil prices will fall to USD$30-35 per barrel within a yr. Doesnt seem impossible with all the natural disasters occurring and stopping production or ruining oil rigs. Unless OPEC caps the price or increases production. I'll be surprised if it jus falls to $48 per barrel. Report mentions it was the continual increment of US reserves that leads to the shortage of oil in the market dat leads to the high price. If US lowers its reserve amt and releases the extras to the market, oil prices will fall tremendously. But when will it be? They recently release a portion to bring the price below $70 per barrel. Doesnt really make a drastic impact. And with the terrorist problems at hand, I dun suppose US will wan to decrease its reserves. Since if it angers the Middle East, war or watever, they discontinue their supply of oil, (US will get rich by selling their reserves here at sky-high prices.) US will fall into a recession/social unrest if their oil reserve is not enuff.
Oh speaking abt cab drivers. (I got a feeling tis post will run very long.) With PM Lee mentioning abt service stds in sg, may I propose that the 1st thing they look at is the ATTITUDES of cab drivers? Since they're like, the 1st svc providers tourist will experience when they wan to go to their hotels other than those retailers at the airport who are probably already world class service providers since they noe their target market and they had to protect the image of Sg from being tarnished.
But cab drivers, they drive around everywhere. Who noes when they'll meet a tourist. Are they gonna avoid picking up tourists desperately waving their arms at the roadside even thou their cabs r empty? (I've seen cab drivers do tis b4.) Tourists are vulnerable, they jus wan to get to where the map shows them and they depend on u, cabbies, or maybe the innocent passerby to show them the directions. I always kana, do I have a walking roadmap face? Sometimes I offered to bring them to the location if I noe where and I have the time but these tourist will kindly refuse my offer for fear of bringing inconvenience to me. For the amt of money we pay, at least jus give us a pleasant 15 min journey and most importantly, DRIVE US TO THE RIGHT PLACE!!
I took a freaking angried ride a few days ago. (Or was it yest? SSTM doing its thing on my brain.) I hopped on at JE, requested to go Jalan Buroh. The fella gave me a Jalan Buroh where expression. I explained, Caltex, go by Jurong Town Hall. He keeps asking me to repeat even thou I was speaking clearly, slowly and almost virtually shouting. (Problem with my slang accent?) Every qn he ask, I have to repeat and he keeps shaking his head. (He's not Indian even!) Grumpy driver. Like I very mah fan like dat when its jus a journey from JE! Upon reaching my office, I told and repeated umpteen times to the bugger to turn AFTER the arrow. He turned into the service station and promptly stopped there, refusing to move even thou i told him wrong one, move A BIT in front, repeating again. Bugger only interested in collecting money from me. $6+ from JE 0_0. Fark him. I hope he doesnt get any customers on the way to where he wanna go. (I think he going Clementi side since he asked me where else can U-Turn. I said no, straight road until Penjuru, go JP and pick up customers lah.)
If Singaporeans can get fed up with cabbies, I dun see y tourist wun have the temptation to throw their foreign notes at the faces of the disgraceful drivers. Wat if they wanna go Jurong u drive them to Changi? Expect them to take a flight to land at the Tuas airbase?
The past 3 days since Monday was crazily maddening packed. Meetings, IPO, Visits, Permits, etc etc. I was in my seat for like only 2 hrs on Tues b4 i went into Terminal for IPO and then went Furama Riverfront for a seminar. Had to rush my day's work within the 2 hrs.
Yest, rushed one hr on my permit checking, went for IPO since I only managed to do 1 the other day, came back and finished checking/rechecking/printing/informing/delivering the blanket permits. Stuck in Terminal until 11+ to fulfil my target of 2 IPOs per mth. i din wana procrastinate till the last few days but I had to wait for a freaking someone to pei her do. Went for SPD site visit yest. Gonna do charity work tis mth. (or issit? SSTM again.) Deliver groceries. At least its a break from work officially during office hrs. Made me rush my whole day's work within 2 hrs in the morning as I thot we'll be released from there but NO!! Came back at 4, slacked until 5.30 before going back.
2.30pm Jus back from lunch at Nasi Padang Rivervalley. Aint real nice, at least i dun like. All these hi-cholesterol meals r making me fat. I jus had chappatti at Tekka market the other day b4 attending a safety seminar.
Speaking of the seminar, it was darn boring. I was only awake during the incident investigation part. The whole thing is not related to my scope of work. Kana arrowed to go. Only good thing is, I get to go off early. 4++.
Latest news: Diesel pump price increases. $1.22 per litre now. Expect frequent changes these few days.
Went WOMAD the other day. Les Yeux Noirs was cool. Way way cool. I bought their CD even thou its 30 bucks. Their version of Sabre Dance was nice too. I jus love ppl who can fuse pop and classical and can play violins at breakneck speed. WeeWeet~
